Baggadicks Bar & Grill

Designed while working at Inkfidel, I developed the concept through production of this military themed shirt design in February of 2018.
While discussing designs to pursue while working at Inkfidel, Pete and I started talking about a faux restaurant named Baggadicks and felt it could be similar to a Bennigans or Shenanigans pub. We wanted something simple, so I picked up my tablet and began to sketch out some script ideas in Photoshop. The only criteria we had initially was that the main font should be scripted and be one continuous word as opposed to using three.
I had decided after roughing up some cursive (left) that I didn't necessarily want the script to be perfect all the way around and enjoyed what imperfections were present and wanted to keep them. However, the "tail"of the "s" in the chosen script shown above wasn't working for me. I decided I could play with it more effectively and efficiently in Illustrator so I brought the Photoshop sketch into Illustrator and began to rework the lettering.
Once I had gotten the script where it was legible but clunky-ish (center) I started playing around with different ideas to encapsulate the idea that it was a restaurant of some sort. Initially I played around with random shapes and decided none of it was working so I made it obvious that it was a bar & grill by placing the text inside a burger (right), offset its path and expanded and cut out the frame of the burger. The only thing left do now was to make it pop a bit more and make the design feel complete.
I added sesame seeds to further make it known its a burger and fill in some excess white space while trying not to make it feel too crowded. I also added ribbons to further tie in the fact that it was a restaurant, and added "eat at" above the burger to tie the whole phrase together. The colors used in this version were just the brand colors of Inkfidel and were simply used to provide contrast.
